Creek Dance

Room 2 have made a dance about things that are in the creek. We choreographed it ourselves which means we made up the dance moves.

We learnt about different levels - low level, middle level and high level. When the music changed we had to change levels.

We made our own costume headbands.

Some of us are eels. The eels move like eels would move through the creek. Some of us are plants in the water. The plants can't move around like eels but we sway and move our arms like plants would move in the water. Some of us are rocks. Rocks can't move like eels and plants but we listen for the music change and we change levels and shapes when the music changes.

Creek Posters

We have been learning about responsibilities and we have responsibilities at home and at school and also in the world. This is things like looking after the environment.

We need to look after the creek and after all the rubbish we picked up, Room 2 thought about how we could help other people to not throw their rubbish in the creek. We decided we would make posters.

We drew nice pictures of the creek that we went over with vivid. We coloured our pictures in with pastels then went over them with dye.

Picking up rubbish at the creek

We went back to the creek with our buddy class and this time we went to clean up the creek and pick up some rubbish because when we went last time we saw lots of rubbish.

Before we went we tried to guess what kind of rubbish we thought we would find the most of. Then we went to the creek and picked up all the rubbish we could find.

Then we went back to school and sorted our rubbish into plastic, food, food wrappers, glass and other. We counted them all and our buddies showed us how to make tally marks to show how many of each thing we found.

Creek Visit

This term our Inquiry is Te Taiao o Tamaki which means The Environment of Tamaki. We have been learning about the environment. The evironment is everything around us. This week we went to our local creek with our buddy class.

We saw lots of different things and our buddies looked after us and told us about pollution, which is when things that are not good for the environment is in the environment. We walked around the creek and talked about things we could see, hear, feel and smell. We also saw some rubbish and Miss Park found a driver's licence! We decided to come back and pick up some rubbish next time.

We have been writing recounts for writing and we wrote about our creek visit. Here is some of our recounts about going to the creek.
