This term our Inquiry topic was New Zealand History. We have been learning about life in a pa (which is a type of Maori village). There used to be a pa (Mokoia Pa) in Panmure, where our school is today. In particular we have been learning about the different types of whare (houses) that were in pa.
Last night we got to showcase all our work about our inquiry and show our whanau what we have been learning about.
Our Art
We drew one of the different types of whare. We went over them with vivid then coloured them in with pastels. Then we painted over them with dye. We also presented our artwork in assembly a few weeks ago!
Well done to Joseph, Elijah, Andre, Perry, Paul and Esile for speaking in assembly about their picture! Tino Pai!
Our Explain Everything Projects
We also made Explain Everything projects where we drew a type of whare and talked about it! This played on the TV during the Ako Evening.
This is the video of our Explain Everything projects put together.
Our Whare Displays and Writing
We made the different types of whare out of cardboard. We looked at different designs and the kind of carvings they had on them. We decorated our whare and painted them. We painted them brown because they were made out of wood and wood is brown. We also made paper people to go into the whare and if you lifted the roof and looked inside you could see the people inside!
We have done lots of writing about the whare over the term and we published them so that people could read our writing.
